«©NCSX» After releasing XII Stag a few years ago, developer Triangle Service tried their hand at a vertical shooter featuring a ship known as Antares. Controls are rudimentary with three buttons which control the functions of "Shoot," "Shift," and "Bomb." The "Shift" button morphs the ship into different forms which fire out different attacks - Wide Shot, Missile, and Laser. Standard power-ups may be picked up to upgrade weapon systems together - for example, if in Wide Shot form, boosting the fire power will also power-up all of the other weapon systems to the next level.
Trizeal features 6 stages of action and players may chain together hits to gain power-ups and scores by shooting at least 15 enemies consecutively. A 2-player simultaneous mode allows for cooperative play against squadrons of enemy ships. The PS2 conversion of Trizeal features a "Shooting Skill Assessment Mode" where a players does his best to match up against other players' scores by linking online. New functions include a 30-shot per second rapid-shot feature and the mighty "Dadada Shot" where shots are blasted off in quick succession even when you're switching between weapon systems.

NCS Game Notes
» Trizeal boots up with a title screen an no-frills presentation. Press START and watch as the pilot of the Antares rambles into the cockpit and sits down. The ship is then picked up by a positioning arm and launched into space.
» Controls
O-BUTTON / Rapid Shot
X-BUTTON / Transform
TRIANGLE / Bomb
SQUARE / Shot
R1-TRIGGER / Rapid Transform
Players may keep their finger on the R1-TRIGGER to rapidly transform the ship between all three ship versions and hold down the O-BUTTON to rapidly shoot out a volley of wide shots, lasers, and missiles. Five gradations of weapon strength may be leveled up by snatching power-ups.
» The first level shows off blue skies and wispy clouds as a squadron of violet-colored fighters break through the cloud bank and fly diagonally across the screen. Blow them away and the next wave attacks from the aft. The delta-winged ships are almost peaceful as they fly up with vapor trails streaming off the tips of their wings. They'll spin gracefully as the Antares blows them up. The background scenery soon changes to mountains where an assortment of fighters join the attack along with golden airships which open up their hulls for dramatic effect. Purple ships also glide in and spin once before being destroyed. The cross-fire attacks from the various enemies are simple to avoid and the difficulty level is forgiving at the outset. Things get a little hairy when rigid snake-like attackers surround the Antares and fire off sheets of pellets which require twitchy maneuvering to avoid them.
» At the end of the first level, a green boss ship attacks with lazy laser fire. After its first guard is broken, the boss starts spinning but it still shoots out harmless attack patterns. After the ship's second guard is broken, its wings are lost and the bruiser starts shooting out thick wedges of laser fire that spin and fly across the screen which are slightly more difficult to avoid.
» The GAME MODEs are as follows:
Arcade Mode / Standard Trizeal shooting action
Score Attack / Rack up the most points (level* and weapon selectable)
Ranking / Compare your shmup skills against others
Config / Monitor positioning, difficulty level)
Backup / Save game time + stats to memory card)
Return / Retreat to the main menu
Exit / Return to title screen
* Level select is available after you've cleared all six levels in Arcade Mode.
