NCS Product Synopsis
Update: August 10, 2006 «©NCSX» Teams of tinkering robot creators aspire to win the Robo-X Tournament which pits rudimentary robots against each other in primitive battling action. The player takes control of Team Alexander and battles through the ranks to take the trophy while honing and improving a robot with better attack moves, maneuvers, and attributes. The game features a total of 282 parts which are broken up into five segments as follows: 62 body types, 61 kinds of arms, 62 legs, and 82 heads. For decorative purposes, 15 emblems are available.
More ambitious than most D3 Publisher games, The Robot Tsuku Rouze! features an anime cast of characters, voice acting, and chapters which tell a fairly involved story. The action-adventure features 46 battles which are broken up in chapters that take place over the course of 46 weeks. A team member is designated a task each week such as producing a robot part, developing software, repairs, part improvement, and research. An early robot can basically walk and perform simple attacks such as punch and power-punch. As the robot scales up with better parts and techniques, new attacks such as a swinging punch, double barreled blows, and exotic moves may be performed to dominate opponents.

NCS Game Notes » In the intro, a green robot followed by white and yellow bots appears before a Transformers-like bot with dark blue, white and red armor plates spins on the title screen somewhere in the space. Two robot-making teams are shown - Team Alexander and the Rhine Maidens. As one watches the intro, one realizes that D3P created a whole anime cast and back story for the game instead of fronting just a robot creation simulator.
» Battles consist of pilot versus pilot where each human controls a robot against another one. The robots are not aerodynamic nor sleek but rather blocky and rudimentary. Their movements are also rigid and deliberate where they step forward, somersault to the side, and punch. As the robots move around, the whirring of their motors and internal mechanisms may be heard.
» Press START and the following selections appear:
NEW GAME / Enter the world of robot making and enjoy a story CONTINUE / Resume a game from memory card VS MODE / One on one bout against second player or COM FREE MAKE / Customize a regulation issue robot and test it on a tabletop OPTION / Set dual shock vibration and sound volumes
» CONTROLS L-Analog / Push up to walk forward, down to move back, left to sidestep left and right to sidestep right R-Analog / Push left to rotate robot counterclockwise, right for clockwise, down to jut right shoulder fwd R1-Trigger / Weak right punch L1-Trigger / Weak left punch R2-Trigger / Strong right punch L2-Trigger / Strong left punch Select / Toggle view from side-perspective to behind the robot
● Press both L1 and R1 triggers to punch both arms forward. ● Press both L2 and R2 triggers to raise both arms to the side to damage an opponent to the side
» Before the game starts, a lengthy sequence plays which sets up the story between two rival groups of robot creators - Team Alexander and the Rhine Maidens. The dialogue is accompanied by voice acting which sets up a loftier standard for D3P's SP2000 games.
» To automatically forward the sequence, press the L1 trigger. To fast-forward through the story, press the R1 trigger. Once in your workshop, you have 50,000 yen to spend to create a robot. You control members of Team Alexander who are each assigned a task every week. When creating a robot, the following parts are core which are all available in small, medium, or large sizes.
BODY ARM LEG HEAD
» After each of the three characters have made contributions to the body parts or activities for the week, a test is shown followed by more interaction and a 3-win bout against a robot from a rival team. The action is stuttered and clumsy but reminiscent of how simple robots would fight if they were cobbled together in the real world by students. D3P could have created another fast moving mech simulator game but they went with realistic rather than arcade.
» Each turn is characterized by the three team members making improvements, repairing, and upgrading the robot. After each turn, an interactive sequence plays which leads the story along. Soon thereafter, another robot challenge begins which shows the improvements to your robot and how it helps in the battlefield. In addition to beating an opponent by attacking, it's also possible to ring-out opponents by pushing them over the edge.
