NCS Product Synopsis
Update: September 13, 2006

«©NCSX» School yankii (thugs and hooligans) roam the streets and battle other miscreants to rise to prominence as premiere gang of the burg. Players adopt the role of a self-named school gang leader who battles the primes of other gangs to assert dominance and achieve top ranking. At the outset of the game, a leader punches and kicks to his heart's content but as experience is gained, new skills are learned and made available in specialty disciplines including karate, boxing, and wrestling. A yankii capable of performing the Corkscrew Elbow or the Figure Four Leg Lock may lord all over others in one-on-one street bouts and contests.

As a gangster walks on the road to top dog status, mini-games are presented along with way including one where an oil drum is punched and kicked into submission and another where a flying kick is used to dislodge a metal skate. Along with regulation issue bad asses, a color cast of fighters are featured in the game including a judo master, a boxing freak, and a snarky sumo wrestler. The Banchou Legend Mode is the main game mode but players may also enjoy a 2-player VS Mode to bust up a challenger sitting right next to you in the living room.

NCS Game Notes
» Opus Studio designed the game for D3P

» At the outset of the game, scrolling text describes the backdrop of the story where 10 gangs battle for the seat of power. As the text rolls, an image of a school thug in the background shows off his bandages and open shirt. That's you. In the next scene, the hero is seated at a table with a cup and a teapot. A television and dumbbells may be seen in the background while an electric guitar whines and jams.

» One of the first tasks to engage in is to use your menchi beam against a bald headed bruiser. The menchi beam is a powerful stare that all gang leaders possess. In the Kakutou Banchou game, the beam manifests as a greenish hazy ray of slow-moving light that is emitted from a gangster's eyes. To activate the beam, tap the SQUARE, TRIANGLE, CIRCLE, and X buttons in sequence as rapidly as possible to extend the menchi beam at the opponent.

» Game actions are chosen from a six-option menu as the hero sits at the table. Players may challenge other bosses, learn new moves, save/load from memory card, and take a jaunt to other locations in the city which are chosen from an overhead map.

» In the first battle, hero can walk to the park and encounter a red-mohawked dude in a white trench coat. After a smattering of punch, kick, punch, kick action, the foe was felled. The fighting action is surprisingly substantial and NCS wasn't disappointed as we usually are with D3P games. At the outset, the hero can only throw a flurry of punches and perform a kick but new moves are added to his arsenal as he levels up. After each battle, he returns to his home base where he can enjoy some tea before heading out again. At the base, players may recover HP before joining the next battle (Second option on the menu). One time, we forgot to recover HP and a girl boss in a blue school uniform knocked hero the chuck out with a single punch.

» Hero wears embarrassing clothing and wooden sandals.

» Another boss in the early going is a no-shirt wearing bald headed guy in blue jeans. His legs are bulging and we're guessing muscles are causing them to pop out like that. He performs kicks and leaps around a lot when fighting. He also has a propensity to karate chop a player on the left side of the neck to smash him down.
