«©NCSX» The GT4P opening introduction in the Grand Canyon track is television-like with breathing crowds (flashbulbs glitter during one junction as the car motors down while kicking up a cloud of dust), realistic scenery and a car who reflects the sunlight like a real car would. Starting the game brings up School Mode, Arcade Mode, Load/Save Data, Replay Theater and Credits. The Credits consist of a single page of miniscule text. When starting an arcade game, five courses may be chosen - Tsukuba Circuit, New York, Grand Canyon, Fuji Speedway and Gitta de Aria in Italy.
There's twelve cars (out of 50 total) of varying vintages that may be driven immediately - the Fairlady 240ZG '71, a sleek Skyline Coupe 350GT (V35) '03, MR2 GT-S (SW20) '98, Lancer Evolution VIII GSR '03 or a Celica GT-Four Rally Car '95. Being New Yawkers, we chose the New York track and drove through Time Square sans the sea of yellow cabs and the storm of crowds. It was eerie. All of the familiar sights are there - the shops, the gaudy signs, the Nasdaq zipper and more. As if to reinforce the idea that this was indeed New York, the orange/white roadside markers and concrete barriers are grimy. Kudos to Sony for the exacting realism...
Please note that the Asian version includes a Chinese/English game manual, Mandarin Chinese voice overs and Chinese/English text in the game itself. Asian software may be played only on Japanese PS2 consoles.
