Dragonball Z Budokai

NCS Game Notes
* The DBZ characters are polygonal for a stiff and unnatural look about them.

* In the Story Mode, rock music plays and the DBZ logo appears in front of a hazy cloud mass. The lyrics appear to be "Dragon Dragon, Dragon Ball Z." Goku and Gohan are visiting friends when a creature from the heavens named Raditz announces that he's going to destroy the planet. Raditz knocks Goku down and kidnaps Gohan. The first level begins with Goku and Piccolo facing off against Raditz in a cinematic sequence before the action starts.

* After defeating Raditz, Goku grabs Raditz tail but Raditz deceives the dullard and Goku lets go despite Piccolo's protestations. In the next scene, Raditz has his foot on Goku's chest and is pressing down when Gohan escapes from his prison and whacks Raditz down for Goku to grab from behind. A mini-game starts where one has to keep Raditz in the path shown on screen for 15 seconds so Piccolo can blast him. If Raditz struggles to the left or right, rotate the L-analog to the right or left to bring him back onto the path. Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon will carve out a chunk from both Goku and Raditz's chest. After the exercise, Raditz is a selectable skill. Goku dies but he goes to the Other World and trains on King Kai's planet. Six months later, two more enemy saiyans arrive on Earth and begin a massive attack. Goku returns to earth on a nimbus cloud and finds Piccolo, Tien, and Yancha all felled by a bald-headed bruiser named Nappa.

* Once Goku defeats Napa, the bald-headed malcontent calls for Vegeta's help but the V flings him to the heavens instead and blasts him with a chest cannon shot.

* The battles consists primarily of punching fests and some kicking that has no real strategy. Jab, kick, shoot some ki energy and repeat.

* Vegeta calls Goku, "Kakarot." During their battle, Vegeta turns into a big ape and is crushing Goku when Gohan and friends like the bald headed Krillin appear. One of them slices off big ape's tail and reverts it back to Vegeta. After Gohan defeats Vegeta, the alien summons his ship and makes a hasty getaway.
