NCS Product Synopsis
Update: February 18, 2010
©NCSX» In the early days of the video gaming trade, Taito concocted a coin-op titled QIX which was a strategic puzzle game. By maneuvering a little diamond-shaped ship, players drew lines to construct 2D boxes and rectangles in order to build up a conglomeration of structures. The goal was to box in a little electrical monster called "Qix." It wasn't really a monster in the classical sense but we call most adversaries, "monster" to demonize them and make them worthy of destruction.
Sony's 1 Million Ton no Barabara is the reversal of Qix. Instead of building up structures to defeat a monster ala Qix, players control a motley cadre of heroes to saw, sever, and break monstrous battleships apart. Since beastly battleships won't die at the hands of a few ragtag warriors without a fight, they'll strike back with firepower, ordnance, and arachnid-like creatures that scurry in hot pursuit. The heroes ramble around the surface of the ship with their saws to split the craft apart and when danger nears, they can hunker down in a shielded position to blunt attacks.
While the destruction of the invading battleship is in progress, the arachnid-like creatures will try to stitch the ship back up to keep the parts from flying off into the heavens. If the heroes falter in their acts of havoc, the battleships will drop bombs and destroy their little principality. The visual style of the game may be described as "quirky" and "whimsical" with a dash of "quaint" thrown in to be comprehensive.
